Working Together in the Leam Catchment & Instructions
Partnership Working
There are a large number of public and private sector organisations across the UK who have a role in managing and improving the environment. Although they are all doing their part individually, partnership working and the involvement of the wider community is now seen as the key to implementing significant change. As a result, the following organisations have now come together to focus on improving the environment within the catchment of the River Leam in Warwickshire:
|
· Natural England · Severn Trent Water · Environment Agency · Severn Rivers Trust · Woodlands Trust · Amenity Forum |
· Warwickshire Wildlife Trust · NFU · Warwickshire Rural Hub · Forestry Commission · Warwickshire County Council |
· CLA · Defra · Voluntary Initiative · Independent Farmers and Agronomists
|

It is our hope that this list will grow to involve a wider range of organisations and individuals to create a long term plan for the catchment, identify solutions and implement actions. Most importantly, we realise that before we can identify solutions that will make a noticeable difference in the catchment we need to increase our understanding of the issues by asking the opinions of those who know the area best – you!
The River Leam Catchment
Rather than being constrained by political or organisational boundaries, we are using a geographical boundary to define our focus area. This boundary is referred to as the catchment of the River Leam and within this line all rainwater ultimately flows to the downstream point of the River Leam in Leamington Spa. Due to this geography all environmental problems and solutions are linked. The outline of the catchment is shown on the map below.
Why We Need Your Help
So far the group of organisations listed above have focussed on the collation of data and knowledge held internally. Now we need to spread our search to include the knowledge and expertise of those who know the catchment best – those who live, work and/or visit the catchment. The aim of this website is to start that involvement.
How to Get Involved
We would like you to add points on to the map on this website to show us where you have concerns about your local environment. The points can be annotated with information and photographs and will help us to understand your concerns and suggestions for improvements.
If you click on the button marked ‘Leam Catchment Boundary’ the outline of the River Leam catchment will appear to help you understand the area we are interested in (please be patient whilst the map loads).
To add points please click on the ‘Submit a Report’ tab towards the top of the website page then follow these instructions:
1. Place a point on the map to show us the location you want to provide information about.
Either:
a. Underneath the map on the right hand side of the page type the location you are interested in (e.g. Southam), then click ‘Find Location’. The map view will change, with the location you typed shown in the middle and marked by a red dot. This dot can be moved by clicking and dragging it.
Or
b. By clicking on the button marked with a hand icon you can scroll the map to your area of interest. Click on the icon marked with a pencil below the map and then click on the map to place a dot (alternatively click on the icon showing a rectangle and draw a shape on the map)
The zoom controls are on the left-hand side of the map.
2. Please enter a title for your report in the form box on the left-hand side of the page (e.g. Foam in watercourse)
4. Tick the category box that matches your comment most accurately (please note there is in ‘other’ category)
5. Underneath the map please update the location name.
6. Use the boxes beneath to upload a video link or photograph, if you have them.
7. Fill out the name and address boxes if you would like (please note you do not have to provide your details).
8. Hit the green ‘Submit’ button at the bottom of the page.
The information you have provided will be sent to the site administrator for approval. Please note this check it to ensure that no malicious reports or bad language are used.
How We Will Use the Information
We will use the information you provide to us to plan environmental improvement projects within the area over the next 20 year period. Please note that planning takes time and it will be a while before any work is undertaken on the ground and we cannot guarantee that all the ideas and concerns raised on this site will be addressed.
